Active Port believes that being a lifelong learner is one of the most important traits for team members. So many technologies overlap that we seek individuals with backgrounds in at least a primary and secondary discipline. Some examples are marketing and artificial intelligence or routing and natural language processing.
In the past, we invested in our team by paying for training. Technology continues to evolve at increasing speeds. We found it cost prohibitive to continue paying for training without locking people down to a specific role. We now know that it is detrimental for a team member to perform the same tasks for 3 years without investing time in developing new skills. In 2016 we shifted to seeking individuals who invest in their careers. It’s a load balancing approach that allows us to work with professionals who want the ability to grow into roles with greater challenges.
The decision was made to partner with training companies to offer courses technology and soft skills training programs when we added a formal Internship Program. We found that ongoing training with or without certifications are a critical key for implementing successful, integrated technology projects.
